Why people go
The US draws Indian travellers for reasons that go beyond sightseeing: it has the largest Indian diaspora outside Asia, so a great many trips are built around visiting family, attending a graduation, or a wedding. University visits for prospective students are a category of their own. On the leisure side, the B1/B2 visa's long validity β typically ten years, multiple entry β changes the calculation entirely: one successful application covers a decade of trips, which is why applicants are willing to sit through the interview and the wait. Nonstop flights from Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru to New York, Newark, San Francisco, and Chicago have also cut out the old Gulf or European layover.
